Remember Everyone Deployed

“No man is entitled to the blessings of freedom unless he be vigilant in its preservation”.

General Douglas MacArthur

It will not be a long one today guys.  I simply do not have the time, and I am taking a bike trip up into the mountains for the weekend in order to get away from all the noise.  I did want to leave one thought today before we all head out for our respective weekends.

Today is Friday.  It is what many of us observe and RED Friday.  RED of course standing for “Remember Everyone Deployed”.  Since approximately 2005 as legend has it, an email chain began where the author posited, “If every citizen spread the word and the practice of wearing red on Friday, in short notice the entire country would be awash in crimson”.  In 2006 the Red Friday movement saw its popularity extrapolating, and 14 years later we still remain strong.

I try every Friday without fail to either wear my red polo shirt or plaster my social media for awareness.  I am not perfect, but I get it done most of the time.  I would not even ask my readers to do the same.  I am not one to attempt to legislate human behavior.  All I would hope for, is that we simply do as the movement is titled.  Remember everyone deployed.

I think it is especially important given our current times.  It has been a hard week for our nation.  It has been a hard three months for our nation.  However, it is nothing in comparison to what our troops go through on a daily basis in a forward deployed environment.

We still have warm food, hot showers, cell phone service, television, not to mention the most important thing; each other.  I myself would put a comfortable bed high up on the list too, but that is just me.  We have so much to be thankful for, that our bravest do without.  It appears there is no end in sight either, even under this new administration.

Therefore, all we can and should do, is remember our finest.  Men and women that would lay down their own lives so that we may not have to.  The very, very least we can do this weekend, is take a moment of silent reflection, and appreciation for the best of all of us.

I am heading out folks, for some well needed and deserved mental health time.  May you all be safe and enjoy your weekend, where ever you may be.
